How to keep your garage organized at all times

We should start out by saying that it’s no big surprise if you have an unorganized garage. Items pile up over time and we don’t even notice how much clutter we actually have. Of course, that’s not the ideal situation. It makes finding items you need much more difficult. And it can be very stressful to clean properly. So, you should keep your garage organized to the best of your abilities. But, it’s a bit easier said than done, right? Don’t worry – with some elbow grease and a bit of advice, your items will be in the proper drawers and green storage bins in no time.

Set up a system to keep your garage organized

So, first things first – you need to think of a system that will work for you. Without a plan in place, there’s no way you’ll be able to maintain your garage organized. Decide on which items should go where. Start with the largest items you have and designate a place for them. From there, decide where your storage containers will be placed. Don’t just have small items lying around. Categorize them however you wish, but do categorize them. A good system is to place the tools you commonly use in one storage container and the rest in another (or multiple others).There is no need to spend money to get storage. You can re-purpose the eco moving boxes left over from your move for storage.

The old door handle that you thought you could use at some point? Just throw it away. In general, if you’ve had items in your garage for over 5 years and you’ve never used them, you never will. They just take up space, so get rid of them.

Once you know how you want your garage to look and have done away with the items you don’t need, it’s time to get to organizing. If you have friends or family members who are willing to help, it’s a good idea to call them. It will take you less time and you may not have to spend a whole day organizing your garage. Anyhow, start with the largest items and put them in the right place. Then, start sorting your tools in the proper drawers. If you need more space, take some eco friendly moving boxes and use them for storage. Categorically start from one end of the room until you’re done.

Otherwise, your items will just pile up again and you’ll have to start the entire process from the beginning. So, do yourself a favor and stick to the system you’ve set up and get some eco storage supplies. Explain to your family members what goes where so that you don’t have to run around cleaning after them. After all, every item in the kitchen and bathroom has a designated place, so why not the garage? Keeping your garage organized won’t be too hard if everybody follows the rules.
